Understanding the Spiritual Meaning of Lent – A Special Evening at Our Lady of Mount Carmel

The season of Lent invites us into a time of reflection, renewal, and deeper relationship with God. This year, Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church warmly invites the community to a special evening of discussion and reflection to help us better understand the spiritual richness of this sacred season.
On Monday, March 9, 2026, at 7:00 PM, we are honored to welcome Dr. Zeni Fox, Professor Emerita of Pastoral Theology at Immaculate Conception Seminary School of Theology. Dr. Fox will lead a thoughtful discussion on the spiritual meaning of Lent—exploring how this season of prayer, fasting, and almsgiving can transform our daily lives and deepen our faith.
Lent is often associated with sacrifice, but its deeper purpose is renewal. Through this conversation, Dr. Fox will help us reflect on questions such as:
- What is Lent truly meant to accomplish in our spiritual lives?
- How can we enter more fully into the practices of prayer, fasting, and charity?
- How does Lent prepare our hearts for the joy of Easter?
Whether you are looking to deepen your Lenten journey, reconnect with the traditions of the Church, or simply grow in your faith, this evening promises to be both insightful and inspiring.
The discussion will take place in the Church Hall at Our Lady of Mount Carmel in Montclair, and a small reception will follow, offering a chance to continue the conversation and enjoy fellowship with others in the community.
We encourage parishioners, friends, and neighbors to join us for this meaningful Lenten gathering. Bring a friend, bring your questions, and come ready to reflect on how this holy season can renew our hearts.
